Mannheim/Madurai – In January 2007, Rhein Chemie Rheinau GmbH, Mannheim, Germany, launched production of polymer-bound rubber chemicals (Rhenogran®) in India. The new plant was constructed in Madurai, at the Southern Indian production site of the LANXESS parent company.
With this plant, the company is responding to increased demand. More and more frequently, Indian tire manufacturers and other rubber processors are making use of polymer-bound chemicals, as this enables them to improve product quality, processing, cost-effectiveness, health protection and environmental protection. “Following the expansion of our Rhenogran® production in China last year, the launch of Rhenogran® production in India is a further example of our constant commitment to consolidating our international position in the area of polymer-bound rubber chemicals,” says Dr Anno Borkowsky, CEO & President of Rhein Chemie. “We would like to be able to offer our Rhenogran® service concept to the customers in all major markets. On the one hand, we are specially adapting the product portfolio to the requirements of the rubber industry in India. On the other, we are developing individual solutions with the customers on site.”
Rhein Chemie has achieved considerable success around the world with its Rhenogran® concept. The service concept is a core value of the company. Users can rely on consistent quality. The active ingredients – mostly in eighty percent concentrations – are inserted into a universally compatible binding system. This means that Rhenogran® can be handled in a dust-free manner, can be easily proportioned into the mixture and can be used in almost all rubbers. The dust-free binding of active ingredients therefore makes a significant contribution to health and environmental protection, as it protects processors and the environment from hazardous rubber chemicals. Variations in dispersion, as they often appear when using powders and which cause problems for the user, can be avoided by using Rhenogran®.
This is the second Rhenogran® plant to be commissioned in Asia in the space of just one year. As recently as March 2006, the company doubled the production capacity for Rhenogran® in its Chinese joint venture Rhein Chemie (Qingdao) Ltd. During construction of the new Rhenogran® plant, teams from Rhein Chemie and LANXESS India worked in close collaboration. Since summer 2005, environmentally friendly Rhein Chemie release agents (Rhenodiv®), have been manufactured for the tire industry at LANXESS India Private Limited in Madurai.
Rhein Chemie has been successfully providing the chemical industry with tailor-made additives and service products for more than 100 years. Approximately 1,000 Rhein Chemie employees produce and sell products worldwide to many segments of the rubber, lubricant, plastics and polyurethane industries. About 550 employees work at the head office in Mannheim-Rheinau. The company has subsidiaries and production facilities in Europe, Asia and North and South America. Rhein Chemie is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the LANXESS Group, Leverkusen.
