The technology is also a candidate for the Presidential Green Chemistry Award.
Chardon, Ohio – Rhein Chemie Corporation’s environmentally friendly alternatives to petroleum-based products are receiving national attention. “Additives for Optimizing Renewable Resources in the Production of Polyurethane Systems & Plastics”, has been accepted for presentation at the 11th Annual Green Chemistry & Engineering Conference that will be held in Washington, D.C. from June 26-29. The technology is also a candidate for the Presidential Green Chemistry Award.
Chemists in Rhein Chemie’s Engineering Plastics Division, in partnership with Bio-Based Technologies LLC, Rogers, Arkansas, developed the additive technology to replace petroleum-based polyols with bio-based polyols, particularly in soy-based systems. The presentation will discuss some of the chemical additives that fostered the innovation and commercialization of soy-based polyols in the rigid polyurethane spray foam insulation, and retrofitted and new construction markets. Two commercial additives in particular, Addocat™ 102 and Stabaxol® P200, have provided reactivity and shelf-life stability improvements in the soy polyol side of the polyurethane rigid foam reaction.
